Ashtanga Yoga

get-bentAshtanga is meditation in motion. Every student begins with the Primary Series (which can take several years or more to become comfortable with), a fluid and dynamic yoga sequence consisting of sun salutations, standing, seated, and finishing postures that synchronize the flow of conscious breath, precise movement, specific gazing points, and directed energy. Benefits include increased body and breath awareness, strength, stamina, flexibility, balance, and courage.

Mysore-style Ashtanga

Mysore-style Ashtanga is the method of teaching Ashtanga Yoga in the tradition of the late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India. Mysore classes differ from typical yoga classes in that students practice the poses they have been given by the teacher at their own pace, with adjustments and instruction as needed. This essentially creates the atmosphere of a private lesson in a group setting. This class will deepen your understanding of what it means to have a personal practice. Students may arrive anytime during the class but must be finished by the ending time. Morning Mysore class meets six times a week, excluding Saturdays and moon days, and we recommend practicing 4-6 times per week.

Are you a beginner to Mysore-style practice? Wonderful! Your first few practices will be relatively short (20-30 minutes) compared to what you may be used to, but they will grow longer soon. You must commit to practicing in this style three times per week (or more!), since this style is so unique. If you have any questions or would like to observe a class, please feel free to email Ellie.
