Ellie Wannemacher, AP

Yoga teacher and ayurvedic PRACTITIONER

I am an Authorized Ashtanga Teacher and Ayurvedic Practitioner based in the Twin Cities, MN. I teach group and private yoga classes, periodical workshops in both yoga and Ayurveda, and offer individual Ayurvedic consultations both in-person and online. I live in NE Minneapolis with my husband and two young children.

I began practicing yoga in 2002. I have had a daily practice of Ashtanga Yoga since 2005, and have been teaching since 2007. I have been fortunate to learn from teachers such as Michelle Gaze, Lisa Hill, Bill Shapleigh, Todd Boman, Magnolia Zuniga, Angela Jamison, and Sharath and Saraswathi Jois.

Dedication to yoga practice has supported me through two pregnancies and post-partum periods (with appropriate time taken off asana) and I find that this yoga practice is an invaluable resource for the mental, physical and emotional challenges that come with pregnancy, birth and motherhood, and for the healing required.

I have taken four trips to Mysore, India to study with Saraswathi and Sharath Jois. After being given Authorization Level 1 by Sharath to teach in 2014, I taught a daily Mysore program in Minneapolis for five years (Ashtanga Yoga Minneapolis). The Mysore-style format is the most effective and supportive format for developing and sustaining a long-term yoga practice that I have encountered, and I thoroughly enjoy teaching in this way once a week.

I began learning about Ayurveda in 2007, and have been applying its wisdom to my life and teaching since then. Under the direction and guidance of Dr. Asavari Manvikar, I completed the Ayurvedic Health Counselor program at the Minnesota Institute of Ayurveda in June of 2021, received Board Certification at the Health Counselor level, and graduated from MNIA as an Ayurvedic Practitioner in the spring of 2023.
